Christmas Wishes

580

It’s that time of year and Christmas is just two days away. The sports calendar doesn’t stop, but here at ScoreBoard, we’d like to simply to pass out a few presents of our own to some sports figures, both local and national.

Tony Romo
Leb RomoThis one’s easy – a new collar bone. The poor guy can’t catch a break (no pun intended). Had Tony stayed healthy, who knows where the Cowboys would be right now; definitely in contention in the NFC East. We wished Tony a new offensive line a few years ago and that came through. Maybe we should also ask for Bill Callahan back, as this line has been good but not the same since he left.

Johnny Manziel
A new team. His new motto should be “Anywhere but Cleveland.” That franchise is simply the worst run in the league, and it’s not even close. I’d wish Johnny a new head coach, but that’s just one of the problems in the Mistake by the Lake. No, Johnny needs a new place to play, complete with an offensive coordinator that will structure an offense around his ability to scramble and use his feet. Could that be Dallas? Everyone seems to be speculating it might. But no, he needs to go somewhere else. I’m not sure where, but Cleveland sure as heck ain’t it.

Rick Carlisle
mavs-rick-carlisleThis present will have to come late, say in July. Here’s hoping that Rick gets to have Chandler Parsons stick around and finally add a piece or two to build upon. Maybe this is the summer that Mark Cuban lands a big fish free agent. Rick needs it. Dirk surely needs it as he enters the twilight of his productive years.

Jim Nill
Here’s hoping that a contending team out east has a goalie go down and have an immediate need for a veteran starter. The Kari Lehtonen-Antti Niemi platoon is going fine, but give me a full-time starter and developing backup (Jack Campbell). I’d love to see Kari dealt to, say, New York, both for his sake and the benefit of the Stars. It would be fantastic to see what you could get back in that deal as well.

Jeff Banister
A healthy Jurickson Profar would be nice. The kid has been on the shelf for far too long, and it would be only fitting if he finally got his chance as a full-time major leaguer here in Texas than somewhere else. A corner outfielder would be nice to add as well, but we’re not going to push it (yes we are).

Phil Simms
A new job. Somewhere else. Please.

Kevin Sumlin
SUMLINA quarterback who honestly wants to be an Aggie. He has one now in Jake Hubenak, but can he get the job done in lieu on Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray’s transfers? We will find out on December 30 when Hubenak starts the Music City Bowl. Oh, who are we kidding – Sumlin needs a new offensive coordinator more than anything.

Cowboys Fans
Two more losses to end the season. Yeah, I now, who likes to lose? But the reward is a top-five draft pick in April, something that this team could use again to build quality depth and performance.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from all of us at ScoreBoard!
